HOMEWOOD NEW TIGERS COACH
Mitcham have announced Scott Homewood as their senior coach for 2010.
Homewood has had plenty of division one experience in his playing career, after returning to the EFL from AFL club Richmond in 2003 he played two seasons with East Burwood, before moving to Lilydale between 2005 – 2007.
After two years of near relegation, Mitcham will be looking to Homewood to try and remove them from the relegation zone in division three, and help move the Tigers up the ladder. Mitcham have finished in ninth spot the last two years, recording three wins each season.
Mitcham president Matt McCubbin was pleased to lock in their new coach for the next two seasons, while at the same time adding some experienced players to their young list. Homewood will be a non playing coach for the Tigers. “We are very pleased to have secured Scott Homewood as senior coach for the next two years (2010 & 2011). Scott comes to the club with a wealth of division one experience and his extreme desire to improve our already young and exciting list stood out from the other applicants,” McCubbin said. At 27 years of age with a good level of football knowledge and experience, I believe Scott has what is required to take this club forward both on and off the field.”
Along with the appointment of Homewood, the club has also signed Andrew Strong (Snr Assistant Coach) and Marcus Kenny (Playing Assistant Coach). “Andrew’s onfield experience will aid in the improvement of our young but improving list. Signing a player with Marcus' ability will greatly improve the clubs onfield capabilities. We look forward to all three playing a significant role in what shapes up as an exciting year for the Tigers in 2010,” McCubbin said.
Over the last three seasons the leading goal kickers for the Tigers have not managed anymore than 30 goals so the acquisition of Kenny to the Tigers forward line is a major bonus for the club. After an injury depleted 2009 season – where he still managed 50 goals from 10 games – Kenny will be looking to impress his new club in his new division having kicked 51 goals the previous year from 15 games.
Mitcham will be holding a meet the coach night at the club on Wednesday 28th October at 6.30 pm.
