EFL ROAD SAFETY PROGRAM

EFL ROAD SAFETY PROGRAM

In 2009, with funding from the TAC, the EFL introduced a Road Safety Program that took place in Good Sports accredited senior clubs. The program focused on drink driving, and featured RACV’s Free2go program for the under 18 players, as well as the RoadSafe Looking After Our Mates program, and was beneficial to players across the seniors and colts.

In 2010, with funding assistance from ConnectEast for the next two years, the EFL will be introducing Phase 2 of the EFL Road Safety Program, a Driver Information Program which will focus on driver safety.

Phase 2 will focus on:

·        the advances in road safety over the years

·        vehicle safety

·        what are some of the major causes of road accidents

·        and the ways in which players within the EFL and their clubs can influence decision making on the roads.

The program is again aimed specifically at Good Sports accredited clubs (which all 43 EFL senior clubs have now successfully signed up to), and we suggest this course be made compulsory for your senior players.

Part of Phase 2 will be an open forum at the end of the session involving players and will see the Phase 2 instructor on the night requesting the assistance of the club captain to help start discussion.

The EFL aims to run this course at clubs on a Tuesday night for senior players and a calendar has been prepared for the season which has now been sent to clubs. Phase 2 will kick off at the Knox FC on June 8. As well as Phase 2, a number of new clubs that have joined the Good Sports program over the last 12 months will have Phase 1 of the program at their club, starting on June 15 at the Mulgrave FC. A calendar of upcoming weeks will be available shortly here on the Road Safety section of the EFL website, and for more information email astanguts@efl.org.au
